Dear Readers,
I have the pleasure of presenting to you the brand new edition of La Gazette, the official newsletter of the Consulate General of France in New Orleans. Our newsletter is the place to discover important events and projects supported each month by the Consulate, as well as the news of France in Louisiana.
To begin, I would like to express my most sincere thanks to the numerous citizens who sent flowers and messages of support to the Consulate, following the attacks against the magazine, Charlie Hebdo, and the kosher supermarket in Paris. We are profoundly touched by the wave of solidarity and friendship for our country that has been shown by state representatives of Louisiana, the French community, and the greater public. As you know, it is not only a newspaper, Paris, or France that have been attacked, but also freedom of expression and democracy. The United States and France share these common values. Together, in France, and within our international community, we will remain unified in the face of violence and terrorism. In these sad circumstances, we thank all of you for your unwavering support.
In this first edition of 2015, we’ll be revisiting some exciting events of the past month, including an interview with Sébastien Salvagnac, the creator and artist behind Luna Fête. The Consulate also took part in a very unique and special ceremony honoring Mr. Warren Ostarly, a 90-year-old veteran of the Second World War, with the Legion of Honor Medal.
You can also read our exclusive interview with French NBA star, Alexis Ajinça, to celebrate the upcoming French American Night with the Pelicans on Jan. 25, where you can meet Alexis in person!
Our newsletter is brought to you by our new Communications Attaché, Meagen Moreland, who also invites you to follow us all year round on Facebook (Facebook.com/FranceLouisiana), Twitter (@FranceLouisiana), and Instagram (@FranceinLouisiana, #CGNola), as well as at our completely redesigned website: www.consulfrance-nouvelleorleans.org.
Finally, I take this opportunity to offer all of you the warmest of wishes for 2015.
Grégor TRUMEL
