Signing of the French-Louisiana Accords 2016-2020

The France-Louisiana Accords 2016-2020 were signed in Baton Rouge on Friday, December 2 during a formal ceremony on the steps of the Louisiana State Capitol. These accords establish a cooperative effort to support French immersion education in the state. This agreement will pave a path for a historic relationship between Louisiana and France for the next four years.

Consul General Grégor Trumel, alongside the Attaché for the Development of French, recently led a new Louisiana delegation in Martinique (November 6-9) and Guadeloupe (November 9-12).The delegation consisted of 32 officials currently practicing in the fields of politics, economics, education and Louisiana Universities.

The Andry/Bruno French Oratory Contest award ceremony was held on, December 4th, at the Degas House in the presence of Vice Consul of France, Oliva Lamy. Out of 72 registered students from 14 high schools, 11 were awarded in four different categories.

EDUCATION

LSU’s Center of French and Francophones Studies, alongside the Université des Antilles, received a $235,000 grant provided by the Partner University Fund, the FACE Foundation and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This grant is the largest amount awarded to the LSU French department and the largest ever to LSU for a collaboration between the LSU and French government.
