Opening Reception: April 2, 6:00pm

The exhibition portion of DIALOGUES focuses on media key to both art and architectural practices, as well as videos, books, catalogues and posters that allow the public to become familiar with the careers of the thirty DIALOGUES participants. The exhibition also includes audio selections from panel discussions at the MAK Center that comprised the first phase of the project.

This project proposes to be a exhibition, publication, performance, and residency. castillo/corrales will be hosted here in Los Angeles and will run a series of lectures, events and meetings. During the course of the series, Public Fiction and castillo/corralles will release a series of broadsheets that will serve as dispatches, each one marking a turn in the collaboration and evidence of our exchange.

Crooks and Castles is proud to announce a new collaboration with French Artist Mambo, fueled by Monster Energy and BR4SS. This collaboration consists of a mural of Mambo's unique artwork in Downtown Los Angles. This will be Mambo's first large scale project since moving to the US last year from France.

This exhibition will feature new work by Alex Kizu (aka Defer), French graffiti artist Mist and Smash137. They will exhibit work that reflects the continuing evolution of graffiti artists around the world. Each finds inspiration in the letter.

Les Jolis Trésors opened its doors in Long Beach's Broadway district in December 2009. Annie Clavel, the owner and curator, is a French artist who has lived in Long Beach since 2006. This event will feature Annie Clavel’s new show, Silent Music, presenting the new abstract paintings she has created to celebrate the coming Spring season.

In 2010, Matisse's large ceramic, La Gerbe (The Sheaf) was bequeathed to LACMA. Commissioned by Mr. and Mrs. Sidney F. Brody in the early 1950s for the courtyard of their home by A. Quincy Jones, the ceramic reflects the work Matisse had been doing with large, colorful paper cut-outs.

This family show explores the beauty, poetics, and inspiration in daily life.  The work reveals the unique in everything around us.  Through the bodies of the performers, movement becomes dance, noise becomes song.  Household events, like a shower and the cacophony of dishes, are transported into the marvelous.

TU (or “you”) is an exercise of view.  The piece features hooded dancers in a ghostly environment.  Hoods hide the faces and expressions of figures who, ultimately, all walk the same path.  An awakening reveals the differences behind everything that looks alike.

French philosopher Claude Lefort’s oeuvre developed over a period of six decades until his passing in 2010. His notions of "power as an empty place" and "the modern dissolution of the markers of certainty" have become radical and liberal democracy’s obligatory reference. The discussion is presented as part of a two-day symposium on The Aesthetic Character of Politics in Hannah Arendt and Claude Lefort.

This travel grant aims at giving American students an opportunity to discover France. It is open to sophomore, junior & senior students who are enrolled in a double major including one major in French and one major in another discipline. Consideration will also be given to students enrolled in a minor/certificate in French and majoring in another subject.
