HOUSTON, TX | DOWNTOWN | APRIL 6 | 12PM-12AM

Internationally acclaimed Art Festival NUIT BLANCHE HOUSTON will be transforming downtown Houston on Saturday April 6th, from noon to midnight, for its inaugural debut. With site-specific performances, projections, and installations in unexpected public spaces, the festival will transform the core of the city into an artistic playground.

The unique event will feature artworks by French artists Hakima El Djoudi (supported by the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Houston), Yona Friedman, JR and Olivier Modr.

AUSTIN, TX | AUSTIN FILM SOCIETY | APRIL 18-21

The New French Cinema Week, a festival of new international films by up-and-coming Francophone filmmakers, will run in Austin, TX from Thursday, April 18 to Sunday, April 21 at the AFS Cinema. The selection features eight fims by French film directors, as well as animated non-fiction shorts from the Ecole des Beaux Arts of Angers. The festival is presented by Austin Film Society and supported by the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Houston.

CONWAY, AR | UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL ARKANSAS | APRIL 2-18 | 5:30PM

With the support of Tournées Film Festival, a program of the FACE Foundation in partnership with the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, the University of Central Arkansas will be hosting a French Film Festival, presenting the free screening of six films, open to the public: I am Not Your Negro by Raoul Peck, Little by Little (Petit à Petit) by Jean Rouch, Makala by Emmanuel Gras, Faces, Places (Visages, Villages) by Agnès Varda and JR, 12 Days (12 jours) by Raymond Depardon, and My Journey Through French Cinema (Mon voyage à travers le cinéma français) by Bertrand Tavernier

TEXAS, OKLAHOMA & ARKANSAS | MARCH 2019

This year, close to 50 events where held in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas throughout the month of March to clebrate the diversity of the French cultures and the French language. HOUSTON, TX | THE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, HOUSTON | UNTIL JUNE 27

Vincent van Gogh: His Life in Art brings together more than 50 masterworks by Post-Impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh (1853–1890) through four key stages of his career: his early years in the Netherlands; his luminous period in Paris; his search for light and color in the South of France; and his exploration of nature as a source of enduring inspiration in Saint-Rémy and Auvers. The exhibition showcases portraits, landscapes, and still lifes drawn primarily from the collections of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, the Netherlands.

The STAFE fund aims to support associative projects in the field of education, charity, culture or socio-economic insertion and contribute to the influence of France by supporting French citizens living abroad as well as the French-speaking public.

To apply, request your application pack by May 3 and submit your project by May 10.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: MAY 5

The program awards grants for projects taking place in the United States, involving French composers, musicians and ensembles and will prioritize projects including new generations of composers and emerging artists that reflect the cultural and artistic diversity of the French and American contemporary music scene. The program encompasses three grant components: Creative Grants (supporting new creations & new commissions), Residency Grants (supporting residencies of French artists in the U.S.), and Touring Grants (supporting tours of French artists and ensembles in the U.S).

APPLICATION DEADLINE: MAY 31

Together with APLU and NAFSA, the Cultural Service and Science Service of the Embassy of France in the U.S. launch the Transatlantic Mobility Program with the aim to provide grants to colleges and universities which prioritize student mobility. U.S. colleges and universities applying for the grant will be asked to enact policy or programmatic changes on campus that encourage greater participation in study abroad.  Applications are open until May 31.

The Houston Jewish Film Festival features this year four French films: Simon and Theodore (Simon et Théodore) directed by Mikael Buch (April 2), A Bag of Marbles (Un sac de billes) by Christian Duguay (April 8), Mr. and Mrs. Adelman (Monsieur & Madame Adelman) by Nicolas Bedos (April 10), and Promise at Dawn (La promesse de l'aube) by Eric Barbier. With venues across town, the Festival, now in its 15th year, shines the spotlight on Jewish and Israeli culture, art and history.

HOUSTON, TX | CINEMARK MEMORIAL CITY | APRIL 11 & 13 | 7PM

The 52nd annual international independant film festival WorldFest-Houston will be held from April 5-14 at the flagship Cinemark Theatres in Memorial City. More than 50 feature film premieres will be screened, including French film Magnificent Liars (Les beaux menteurs) directed by Bruno Mercier, on April 11 and 13.

AUSTIN, TX | UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN | APRIL 17

French historian and University of Paris 1 professor Dominique Kalifa will be giving a talk at the University of Texas at Austin on April 17 in the framework of his US tour. He will be presenting Les Bas Fonds, which was translated in English by Susan Emanuel and published in the United States in 2019 from Columbia University Press. The book received a French Voices Award in 2016.

French electronic music DJ and producer Malaa will be performing at Stereo Live Houston on April 13.  He broke into the electronic music scene through his single Notorious, which was the second release on Confession. He is currently part of the Pardon My French team, a collective of four French DJs composed of DJ Snake, Mercer, Tchami and himself.

A former black metal guitarist who switched to dark synthwave, James Kent also known as Perturbator got his genre-free attitude toward music from his parents, one of them being rock critic Nick Kent. He will be at Trees in Dallas on April 24 and at Come and Take it Live in Austin on April 25.

FORT WORTH, TX | UBBI'S STAGE | APRIL 28 | 9:25PM

French record producer and DJ from Paris Tchami will be performing in the framework of the Ubbi Dubbi Festival in Fort Worth, TX on April 28. A founding member of the Pardon My French collective, he is best known for his solo work and regarded as a pioneer of the future house genre alongside Dutch DJs Oliver Heldens and Don Diablo.
