In recognition of the centenary of Auguste Renoir's death, the Clark Art Institute and the Kimbell Art Museum present Renoir: The Body, The Senses.
Founding member of the Impressionist Movement, Renoir was an evolving artist. The exhibition focuses on one defining subject of his artistic practice: the body. Best known for his nude paintings, Renoir always found inspiration in the human form.
Renoir: The Body, The Senses showcases his diverse artwork, with seventy paintings, drawings, pastels and sculptures.
For this occasion, the Musée d'Orsay loaned several works of art, including Boy with a Cat (1868) and Study: Torso, Effect of Sun (c. 1876).
Paintings from Delacroix and Rubens are also contributed to celebrate the representation of body in art.
Lectures, movie series, and
art making will also be part of the ongoing exhibition.
