Le Café Français is a networking event created by the Consulate and allowing French teachers to meet and discuss their pedagogical practices in a convivial setting. This fall, we want to thank Williams College French Departement's team to welcome us in Williamstown.

The French Program at Williams College presents: "Un tableau des ressources locales pour faire vivre le français." This Café Français will provide you with resources to help enliven French curriculums and culture in you local environments. It will be presented by the following professors from Williams College: Brian Martin, Kashia Pieprzak, Annelle Curulla, Nicole Desrosiers, and Sophie St. Just. Venez nombreux!

The Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF) is a joint initiative of the French Ministry of Education, the Centre international d'études pédagogiques (CIEP) and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy. The program's goal is to strengthen English-language instruction in French schools by establishing a native speaker presence, while also providing American Francophiles with excellent teaching experience and first-hand knowledge of French language and culture. Each year, over 1,100 American citizens and permanent residents teach English in public schools across all regions of metropolitan France and in the overseas departments of French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion.

Hélène Vanthier is a teacher at the Centre de Linguistique Appliquée at the Université de Franche-Comté and specializes in the pedagogy of teaching French to young audiences, a subject on which she has written several books and studies. In her workshop, she will invite teachers to question the means at their disposal to teach French to non-native speakers in elementary schools, including through role-playing activities, analysis of different practices, and theoretical reflections.

CLUBS DE LECTURE DE LA RÉGION
Burlington, Boston, Cambridge, and Providence

A variety of Francophone book clubs are available and looking for new members all throughout New England. At the Alliance Française de Providence, RI, a friendly book club meets monthly to discuss francophone literature. The Alliance Française de Burlington, VT's book club will be recommencing in January. Housed at the French Cultural Center, the Alliance Française de Boston offers both a structured, instructor-led book club and an informal discussion group every month. Finally, Schoenhof's Foreign Book Sellers in Cambridge hosts meetings the first Thursday of the month from 6:15 to 8:00 p.m in the fall and spring seasons. Bonne lecture!

A new selection of movies is now available at the IF Cinema! Teachers (K-12, colleges, universities and Alliances Françaises) can access the platform of the Institut Français for educational purposes. More than 300 royalty-free films are available along with over 50 educational kits.

To have access to the films, teachers must register and have their educational project validated.

La Caravane des dix mots presents JeuMexprime, an online contest which invites students and adults alike to create a visual, written, musical or audiovisual composition around a series of ten words. For more information, please click here.

Did you know that many NHL hockey players, including Boston's Patrice Bergeron, are Francophone? In combination with AT&T, the Bruins have developped materials to encourage the engagement of students in French language learning. The Cultural Services of the French Embassy and ARTE, the European cultural TV channel, are thrilled to offer ARTE Docs USA, a list of documentaries, for American Universities, non profit institutions, schools and Alliances françaises.

Chateaubriand Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS) is a fellowship program offered by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the U.S. It targets outstanding Ph.D. students from American universities who seek to engage in research in France, in any discipline of the Humanities and Social Sciences. HSS Chateaubriand fellows are selected through a merit-based competition via a binational collaborative process involving expert evaluators from both countries.

This travel grant aims at giving students enrolled in an American University an opportunity to discover France. It is open to sophomore, junior & senior students who are enrolled in a double major, including one major in French and one major in another discipline. Consideration will also be given to students enrolled in a minor/certificate in French and majoring in another subject.
