Win The Hermione Book Signed by Captain Yann Cariou
This contest is intended for high schools

After a grand round-trip voyage of 5 months and 12,000 miles crossing the Atlantic to meet American citizens during the spring and summer 2015, the Hermione is now back in France.  After this historical tribute to Lafayette's military aid during the American Revolution in 1780, which included encounters with hundreds of thousands of people on both sides of the Atlantic, the frigate will be resting for the winter in the beautiful region of Poitou-Charentes.  Learn more about L'Hermione and its history - This well written 237-page book covers the history behind the original ship and the construction of the new Hermione.  It includes historical photos, illustrations, drawings, paintings, and maps.  Please note: the book must be picked up at the Consulate in Boston.

In order to win one of the 7 books available, you must be a teacher of the French language in a local high school and must answer the three questions below:

1. In which city of France was the Hermione rebuilt?

2. After leaving L'Ile D'Aix on April 18th, how many stops did she make before she came back to her home port?

3. What do the crew members do during their free time onboard? (2 different answers needed)

Please send an email to Annette. Good luck to everyone!

3 Winning Sails Offered to the Hermione

While the Hermione was in Newport on July 8th, the Commandant Yann Cariou and his crew welcomed the idea of receiving as a gift the three winning sails of our regional contest ‘’Le vent dans les voiles de l’Hermione’’, organized by our cultural service in the spring. Today, the 3 winning sails are in France after travelling with the ship during the last stops in northern America and Canada and while crossing the Atlantic. They will be staying in Rochefort where the Hermione belongs with the large number of gifts the ship received during her trip.

Congratulations to the 3 New England winning classes :
1st prize: Hope HS, RI “ Aux Eaux’’
2nd prize: Mount Everett, Sheffield, MA ‘’ On ne vit qu’une fois mais le monde doit vivre éternellement’’
2rd prize: York HS, ME, ‘’Ouvrez les yeux’’

Thank you to the Hermione and its crew for offering us such a beautiful spectacle in Newport, Boston and Castine.

New Peace Corps Partnership
November 3, 2015
Boston area

The cultural service of the French Consulate in Boston is pleased to announce a new partnership with Peace Corps America.

The Peace Corps organization is always looking for French-speaking volunteers to serve in many countries with Peace Corps presence.  This partnership will offer a perfect opportunity for students to gain knowledge and experience about the institution's mission.  If you are a high school teacher in the Boston area, this could be the perfect event to bring to your school.

Amber Patterson-Strom, Peace Corps representative, will give a 20-minute presentation about the organization and Magali Boutiot, in charge of educational affairs at the French Consulate will present ''Why Learn French'' to the students.

Please send an email to Annette if you think your school would be interested in hosting one of these presentations. Other dates will be offered during the school year. Stay tuned.
