FORT WORTH CONTEMPORARY ARTS (FORT WORTH, TX) | VIDEO & 3D WALKTHROUGH

Paris-based artist Raphaël Barontini presents Caribbean Fantasia, an immersive panorama at Fort Worth Contemporary Arts where visitors will be surrounded by large-scale fabric works, accompanied by an audio piece commissioned by hip hop musician Mike Ladd. The installation was on view since February 28 before its temporary closure.

MCNAY ART MUSEUM (SAN ANTONIO, TX) | VIDEO

From gowns to grunge, Fashion Nirvana: Runway to Everyday, which opened on January 30, marks the first large-scale fashion and video art exhibition in McNay history. Set in the wake of the Cold War, in a decade of great hope and freedom, the innovative installation celebrates the fearless designers, photographers, and video artists who made the 1990s iconic. The exhibit features over 60 garments by famous international designers such as Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier.

MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, HOUSTON (HOUSTON, TX) | VIDEO

Francis Bacon: Late Paintings, organized by the Centre Pompidou in Paris, is the first in-depth museum look at the extraordinary accomplishments of the artist’s final years. Bacon was a leading figure in 20th-century British art: celebrated, scandalous, and profoundly influential. The exhibition remains at the MFAH until the Museum reopens. In the meantime, you can hear from MFAH Director Gary Tinterow as he discusses Bacon’s final work, Study of a Bull (1991) in this audio excerpt.

BUFFALO BAYOU PARK CISTERN (HOUSTON, TX) | VIDEO

Spatial Chromointerference was a unique site-specific environment by world-renowned artist Carlos Cruz-Diez on view in the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern in Houston, TX from May 2018 to April 2019. The late artist, who spent his professional career working and teaching between both Paris and Caracas is considered to be one of the fathers and greatest figures of Kinetic and Optical art.

The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art presents every week a selection of virtual learning resources connecting artworks and artists from the Museum's collection to a variety of subjects, intended to be used in the framework of online teaching. Following the cancellation of the 2020 South by Southwest Festival in Austin, TX last March, the festival partnered with Amazon Prime video to present the SXSW 2020 Film Festival Collection. The virtual festival will be held until May 6 on Amazon Prime Videos and features 39 films, including Cat in the Wall (Bulgaria, United Kingdom, France), Le Choc du Futur (France), Selfie (France), A Period Piece (France, United States), and Figurant (France, Czech Republic). Available for free to all U.S. audiences, with or without an Amazon Prime membership.

Starting May 1st, OKCMOA Films is proud to present a hand-picked series of classic and contemporary French films to watch at home. SXSW FESTIVAL | VIDEO

Following its cancellation last March in Austin, TX, the South by Southwest festival has received 200+ live performance videos from artists who were meant to perform at SXSW 2020. The videos can be watched on the Keep Up with SXSW 2020 Showcasing Artists playlist on Youtube and include video performances of French bands The Blind Suns and Samba de la Muerte.

VOTE BETWEEN MAY 1 AND 15

Albertine has launched its 2020 edition of Prix Albertine Jeunesse, a reader’s choice award in which children ages 3 to 14 years vote for their favorite book from a selection of works of Francophone youth literature available in English translation. The theme of this year's prize selection is “growing up.”

Parents, children, teachers, and students can explore the collection of books and vote for their favorites between May 1st and 15th.

The Book Department is now accepting applications from publishers and translators for its three biannual translation programs: the French Voices Awards, Hemingway Grants, and Acquisition of Rights. Only works scheduled to be printed after March 2021 will qualify for this session. The platform is open and projects can be submitted until May 15, 2020!

Words Without Borders is pleased to announce the 2020 Poems in Translation Contest! It is open to contemporary international poetry translated from other languages into English. Four winning translated poems will be co-published on the digital magazine Words Without Borders, and in the popular daily poetry series Poem-a-Day. You have until June 1 to submit your translation. Try your luck!

HIGHER EDUCATION & RESEARCH

APPLICATION DEADLINE: MAY 29

Together with APLU and NAFSA, the Cultural Services and the Office for Science and Technology of the Embassy of France in the U.S. launch the Transatlantic Mobility Program with the aim to provide grants to colleges and universities which prioritize student mobility. Six to eight U.S. colleges and universities will be allocated a maximum of $20,000 for the completion of their project.

Apply now for postdoctoral research funding of up to 50,000€ for 12 months to continue your environmental and climate research in France. Applications open until July 5 for research in the upcoming academic year. The Make Our Planet Great Again initiative is open for postdoctoral research focusing on earth systems, climate change and sustainability, the energy transition, and societal challenges of environmental issues.
