CINEMA
Le Joli Mai is a 1963 French documentary film by Chris Marker and Pierre Lhomme. Beginning in the Spring of 1962, just after the close of the Algerian War and the Évian Accords, Marker and his camera operator Pierre Lhomme shot 55 hours of footage interviewing random people on the streets of Paris. The questions, asked by the unseen Marker, range from their personal lives, as well as social and political issues of relevance at that time. READ MORE

The Tournées Festival aims to bring contemporary French cinema to American college and university campuses. The program distributes close to $200,000 in grants annually to encourage schools to begin their own self-sustaining French film festivals. The Tournées Festival has partnered with more than 400 universities, making it possible for more than 500,000 students to discover French-language films.

GRANTS & EDUCATION
Chateaubriand Fellowship Program

The Chateaubriand Fellowship is a grant offered by the Embassy of France in the United States. Every year, it allows doctorate students enrolled in American universities to conduct research in France for up to 10 months. The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program and the Humanities and Social Sciences program have different modes of selection but are both highly prestigious and merit-based. Chateaubriand recipients receive a stipend, a round trip ticket to France and health insurance.

Full-day training sessions led by professional French specialist Ghislaine Bellocq will take place throughout Texas in November. Zineb Sedira's First Solo Exhibition in the US

For her first solo presentation in the United States, French artist Zineb Sedira presents Lighthouse in the Sea of Time, a series of video installations and photographs documenting the artist’s journeys to two lighthouses in Algeria. An exhibition that subtly frames the aesthetics and poetics of watching, guarding and taking care of these historic monuments. A must-see.
