Jérémie Royer is an illustrator and designer. Raised in Nice, he studied comic book art and illustration at the École supérieure des arts Saint-Luc in Brussels and is now based in Paris. Royer is co-author, along with Fabien Grolleau, of Audubon, On the Wings of the World (Nobrow Press).

Come and meet Jérémie Royer in Austin, San Antonio and Dallas, in the framework of a Texas tour presenting his book, supported by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.

AUSTIN, TX | SEPTEMBER 6-9

The 31st edition of the All Genders, Lifestyles, and Identities Film Festival (aGLIFF) will take place on September 6-9, 2018 in Austin, TX, showcasing 32 feature-length films and 47 short films and music videos, among which: the 2017 French comedy film "Diane Has the Right Shape" (Diane a les épaules) by Fabien Gorgeart and the 2017 French fantasy film "The Wild Boys" (Les garçons sauvages) by Bertrand Mandico.

The screening of these two films is supported by the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Houston.

French visual artist Lucie Douriaud, student at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art de Dijon, France, is currently in residence at the Southern Methodist University Meadows School of the Arts in Dallas, TX, in the framework of a postgraduate fellowship program between the Meadows School and ENSA Dijon. Join the artist on September 14 for a full day Open Studio Reception at the Doolin Gallery.

HOUSTON, TX | SEPTEMBER 22

After seven months of necessary updates and repairs, the Menil Collection’s main museum building will reopen on September 22, 2018 with reimagined gallery spaces devoted entirely to the growing permanent collection. The opening display will include works by French painter Fernand Léger, post-war French contemporary artist Yves Klein and French avant-garde painter, poet and typographist Francis Picabia.

Austin Baroque Orchestra & Chorus presents "Louis, Louis", a concert of French baroque choral music to be held in St. Louis King of France Catholic Church in Austin, TX on September 1 and at the Chapel of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio on September 2. The concert will be comprised of a variety of works written for the courts of Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI.

(Le grand méchant renard et autres contes...) by Patrick Imbert and Benjamin Renner (2017, fantasy/adventure).

DALLAS, TX | SEPTEMBER 2018

Screening of 2017 French film Memoir of War (La douleur), directed by Emmanuel Finkiel, opening on August 31st at Angelika Film Center Dallas.

On September 13, free screening of 1989 French film Life and Nothing But (La vie et rien d'autre) directed by Bertrand Tavernier and starring Philippe Noiret and Sabine Azéma at Richland College, with the Alliance Française de Dallas.

And on September 22, screening of 1964 French-West German musical-romantic drama film The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (Les parapluies de Cherbourg), directed by Jacques Demy, starring Catherine Deneuve, at the Texas Theatre.

 

HOUSTON, TX | SEPTEMBER 6-9

Screening at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston of 2017 French comedy drama romance film Let the Sunshine In (Un beau soleil intérieur), directed by Claire Denis and starring Juliette Binoche on September 6-8, and of 2017 French film "Gauguin: Voyage to Tahiti" (Gauguin - voyage de Tahiti), directed by Edouard Deluc and starring Vincent Cassel on September 7-9.

BOOKS

Congratulations to Dallas-based publisher Deep Vellum. Its book "Musulman", Roman, written by Zahia Rahmani and translated by Matt Reeck has been awarded a Hemingway Grant by the Book Department of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy. This grant program allows American publishers to receive financial help ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 for the translation and publication of a French work into English.
