Each year in March, on the occasion of the Francophonie celebrations, the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Houston coordinates the French Cultures Festival (FCF) in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. The FCF gathers many institutional partners from museums, universities, schools, diplomatic representations, and other organizations. If you are planning to organize an event related to French language and culture and would like to be part of the French Cultures Festival in March 2017, please fill out the event application. If you would like to sponsor the FCF, please call 713-985-3263 or write to frenchculturesfestival@gmail.com

SAN ANTONIO, TX | UNTIL DECEMBER 31
“Beyond the Land of Minimal Possession” is a short movie project carried out by French artist Lili Reynaud-Dewar, in the framework of her artist residency program at Artpace San Antonio. The movie, set in Marfa, TX and the Texas desert, depicts a group of eight young artists struggling to find meaning in their engagement in the field of visual arts. The project is supported by the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Houston.

DALLAS, TX | UNTIL JANUARY 28
The Dallas Museum of Art presents the first major exhibition in the Museum’s history dedicated to time-based media. "Truth: 24 frames per second" brings together 24 pioneers of film and video and over six decades of work focused on pressing contemporary themes, such as race relations, political unrest, sexual identity and the media, to explore the nature of truth and reality in contemporary life. The exhibition features works by the French duo of filmmakers Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet.

HOUSTON, TX | DECEMBER 17
Xavier de Rosnay & Gaspard Augé, the influential Parisian electronic music duo known as Justice, will be performing during the Day for Night music festival in Houston, TX this Sunday. The band is well known for its 2017 hit “D.A.N.C.E.”, which received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording.

The French Voices Awards reward both American translators and publishers for translations of works that have been published in France in the last 6 years. Recipients are selected by an independant literary committee.

Hemingway Grants allow publishers to receive financial help for the translation and publication of a French work into English. Grant beneficiaries are selected by the Book Department of the French Embassy in the United States.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK | DECEMBER 14 | 8PM
"Le Havre", a 2011 Finnish, French and German comedy-drama film directed by Aki Kaurismäki, follows Marcel Marx, an aging shoeshiner who lives and works in the titular port city and befriends a young African refugee seeking passage to London. The screening is part of of the OKCMOA Port City Series, a series of films about the European refugee crisis

HOUSTON, TX | JANUARY 1-4
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston will be screening the 2017 French documentary film "Faces, Places" (Visages, villages) directed by Agnès Varda and JR. The film follows Varda and JR traveling around rural France, creating portraits of the people they come across and was screened out of competition at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival where it won the L'Œil d'or award.

GRANT PROGRAMS IN FRANCE

APPLICATION DEADLINE: JANUARY 15
Open to native English speakers between the age of 20 and 35, speaking French at a B1 level minimum, the Teaching Assistant Program in France offers the opportunity to work in France for 7 months, teaching English to French students of all ages.

DEADLINE: JANUARY 16
The 2018-2019 Chateaubriand Fellowship call for applications is now open. The fellowship, offered by the Embassy of France in the United States, allows doctoral students enrolled in American universities to conduct research in France for 4-9 months. This year, in support of the Make Our Planet Great Again Initiative launched by President Macron in June 2017, the program is offering additional fellowships for research projects related to Earth System Science, Climate Change and Sustainability, and Energy Transition.
