The new year kicks off with exciting grant opportunities and special programs for both sudents and teachers. Discover also our selection of pedagogical and cultural resources that will make 2015 a year "à la française".

French-English bilingual education will be under the spotlight this year, in particular the initiatives of parents and education specialists who wish to open French immersion programs in Texas public schools.

APPLICATION DEADLINE : JANUARY 15, 2015

The Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF) aims at strengthening English-language instruction in French schools by establishing a native speaker presence. Each year, over 1,100 American citizens and permanent residents teach English in public schools across all regions of metropolitan France and in the overseas departments of French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion.

APPLICATION DEADLINE : JANUARY 20, 2015

Chateaubriand Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS) is a fellowship program offered by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the U.S. It targets outstanding Ph.D. students from American universities who seek to engage in research in France, in any discipline of the Humanities and Social Sciences. HSS Chateaubriand fellows are selected through a merit-based competition via a binational collaborative process involving expert evaluators from both countries.

The American Society of the French Academic Palms (ASFAP) will award two scholarships ($4,000 each) to be used by high school and college students for a four-week minimum study program in a French-speaking country of their choice during summer 2015.

PUF supports international educational exchanges, joint degree programs and training courses (at master’s, doctoral and post-doctoral levels), and joint research projects. APPLICATION DEADLINE : MARCH 15, 2015

This travel grant aims at giving students enrolled in an American University an opportunity to discover France. It is open to sophomore, junior & senior students who are enrolled in a double major, including one major in French and one major in another discipline. Consideration will also be given to students enrolled in a minor/certificate in French and majoring in another subject.

You are a university student, a journalist or a profesional with at least a three year experience in a relevant field? You live on the American continent and speak French fluently?

Apply to the 4th edition of Le Centre de la Francophonie des Amériques summer university, organized in partnership with the University of Ottawa, Ontario. This training aims to adress questions related to "La Francophonie" on the American continent. This year's theme is « L'Économie des Echanges : Espace de Rencontre et de Développement ».

The French Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) program offers American schools the chance to welcome young French educators to serve as teaching assistants in their institutions. TAs help students connect to the language and culture of France and the Francophone world in a relevant and exciting way, while contributing to the creation of a diverse and multicultural atmosphere on campus.

The "Initiative for Transatlantic Friendship and Mobility" implemented by the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in the US and its partners, aims at strengthening the historic ties between the United States and France by doubling the number of students from France and the United States studying abroad in our respective countries, by 2025.

Projects presented by two universities from our region have been distinguished by this year's selection committees. Congratulations to Texas A&M  and to University of Arkansas!

FABRUARY 21 - MARCH 22 I GRADES 7-12 (levels 01-5)

The National French Contest/Le Grand Concours is an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French.

Students  of French in Grades 1-12, in all 50 states and abroad, take a written test and compete against students with similar educational background for prizes. Students can enter the contest through their French teacher.  All students are eligible.

Teachers contact local Chapter Contest Administrator for information on local deadlines and entry fees.

JANUARY - JUNE 2015

The Euro Challenge is a program launched by the Delegation of the European Union to the United States that introduces students to the European Union and the global economy. Teams create presentations that explore real world economic problems and allow students the opportunity to step into the shoes of international policy makers by crafting recommendations and solutions. This program follows the Common Core curriculum while giving students a unique opportunity to learn about the European Union (EU) and the Euro.

A new selection of movies is now available at IF Cinema! Teachers (K-12, colleges, universities and Alliances Françaises) can access the platform of the Institut Français for educational purposes. More than 300 royalty-free films are available along with over 50 educational kits.

FRENCH - ENGLISH BILINGUAL EDUCATION

The all-volunteer French-English Bilingual Education Committee in Houston is currently negotiating with the Houston Independent School District (HISD) to open a French-English immersion program in a Houston public school starting in 2016! The Committee must submit a list of 600 program candidates to HISD by March 2015, comprised of children who will be entering Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade in August 2016.
