Le 1er avril 2016, 1500 élèves de 32 collèges et lycées de Nouvelle-Angleterre se sont réunis à la PCTA School de Providence, dans le Rhode Island, pour célébrer la langue française et les cultures francophones du monde. Cet événement représente le plus grand rassemblement d’élèves de français organisé en Nouvelle-Angleterre. Merci à tous les participants qui se sont joints à cet fête organisée par le Consulat général de France à Boston !

On April 1st 2016, 1,500 students learning French and coming from 32 schools of New England gathered at Providence, RI, to celebrate the diversity of Francophonie and sing it along in French. It was the largest gathering of students of French in New England. Thanks to all the people who joined this event organized by the Consulate general of France in Boston !

C'est parti ! Après avoir visionné des courts-métrages diffusés en partenariat avec le Rhode Island International Film Festival et avec Milan-Bayard Editions, les élèves ont été accueillis par Magali Boutiot, Attachée Educative au Consulat général de France à Boston, et par Roger Begin, Consul honoraire de France dans le Rhode Island. Ensuite, le Maire de Providence Jorge O. Elorza, le Consul général de France à Boston Valéry Freland, le Consul du Canada à Boston Franck Ruddock, la Déléguée du Québec à Boston Marie-Claude Francoeur et la Vice-Consule d'Haïti à Boston Martine Pierre Dorléan ont pris la parole pour encourager les élèves à s'intéresser aux autres cultures, et pour promouvoir les valeurs de diversité, de paix et d’innovation véhiculées par la langue française. Diane Blais, présidente du Conseil d'administration du Centre de la Francophonie des Amérique, et James R. Langevin, député à la Chambre des représentants des Etats-Unis, sont également montés à la tribune dans la matinée.

Ces discours ont été suivis d'une minute de silence en hommage aux attentats perpétrés dans le monde.

C'est parti ! After having watched short films broadcast in partnership with the Rhode Island International Film Festival and by Milan-Bayard Editions, the students were welcomed by Magali Boutiot, from the Educational service of the Consulate general of France in Boston, and by Roger Begin, Honorary Consul of France in Rhode Island. Then, the Mayor of Providence Jorge O. Elorza, the Consul general of France in Boston Valéry Freland, the Consul of Canada in Boston Franck Ruddock, the Québec Delegate in Boston Marie-Claude Francoeur, the Vice-Consul of Haiti in Boston Martine Pierre Dorléan took the floor to encourage the students to be curious about other cultures and to promote values of diversity, peace and innovation through French. Diane Blais, president of the Centre de la Francophonie des Amérique, and James R. Langevin, U.S. Representative, spoke to the students during the matinée as well.

These speeches were followed by one minute of silence in tribute to the victims of the attacks in the world.

Magali Boutiot a présenté les 30 collèges et lycées de Nouvelle-Angleterre présents, en provenance du Maine et du New Hamphire, en passant par le Massachusetts et le Rhode Island. Chaque classe a défilé sur scène et représentait un pays du monde francophone. Le Consul général de France à Boston a également récompensé les élèves lauréats du concours de photos Instagram organisé en décembre dernier par le service culturel du Consulat, à l'occasion de la COP21. Bravo aux gagnants !

Magali Boutiot introduced the 30 middle and high schools present, from Maine to New Hampshire, including Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Each class stood for a country from the French-speaking world. It was also the occasion for the Consul general of France to award the students who won the Instagram picture contest organized by the cultural service of the French Consulate, last December, in order to celebrate COP21. Congratulations to all the winners!

La musique était au coeur de cette célébration de la langue française. Après avoir interprété la chanson "On écrit sur les murs" de Kids United préalablement répétée en classe, les 1500 voix se sont unies pour chanter "C Okay" avec le groupe Swing venu d'Ontario. Pendant près d'une heure, le musicien-chanteur Michel Bénac et ses musiciens ont occupé la scène devant une foule très enthousiaste et énergique !

Music was central in this celebration of french language. After having interpreted the song "On écrit sur les murs" by Kids United previoulsy practiced in the class, an improvised choir of 1500 voices sang "C Okay" with the band Swing coming from Ontario. During almost one hour, Michel Bénac and his band performed a concert in front of an entouthiastic and energetic audience !

Les élèves ont ensuite dansé et tapé des pieds et des mains, à l'occasion du spectacle entraînant de Sidy Maiga. Ce percussionniste malien jouait du djembé, accompagné de son groupe Afrimanding et d'une danseuse en tenue traditionnelle malienne.

Students had fun, by stomping their feet and clapping their hands, with the stirring performance of Sidy Maiga. This percussionnist from Mali played djembe with his band Afrimanding and a dancer wearing a traditional malian dress.
