TEACHER TRAINING
MAY 4 | HOUSTON, TX

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the CIEP (Centre International d’Etudes Pédagogiques) are offering a free 6h workshop to teachers of French as a Foreign language at the Alliance Française de Houston on May 4, 8.30am to 3.30pm.

Theme: Developing verbal communication skills in class

Coffee and snacks will be provided. CPE credits can be granted. 25 participants maximum on a first come first served basis. Please contact the Cultural Service to RSVP before May 2nd 5PM.

JUNE 2017

The aim of the Journées CLE Formation is to offer conferences and pedagogical workshops of quality and create a space to enable discussion and meetings between teachers of French. The concept of the "Café pédagogique" consists in a half-day of training, usually in the afternoon, with:
- A one hour conference
- A workshop  to choose from among several, delivered simultaneously (1h30min)

Three of the 2016 French Voices recipients are looking for a home:
- Les Bas-fonds. Histoire d’un imaginaire, by Dominique Kalifa, Seuil, 2013. Translated by Robin Holding.

- Joseph, by Marie-Hélène Lafon, Buchet-Chastel, 2014. Translated by Laurie Postlewate.

- Mémoires d'outre-mer, by Michaël Ferrier, Gallimard, 2015. Translated by Martin Munro.

Requirement for the title’s new home:
- Publisher’s active involvement in the translation and publishing of the French author.
- Distribution and promotion of the work on the American market (and possibly beyond).
- All works should be identified by the French Voices logo and include a foreword by an American writer.

TRANSLATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS
DEADLINE: MAY 15

The French Voices Awards rewards both American translators and publishers for translations of works that have been published in France in the last 6 years. Each book receives a $6,000 award, shared between the American publisher and the translator. Each year, the committee also elects a Grand Prize Winner, who receives $10,000 in total. A book tour will also be offered to the French author after his work is published in the US. Apply now

Hemingway Grants allow publishers to receive financial help for the translation and publication of a French work into English. Grant beneficiaries are selected by the Book Department of the French Embassy in the United States. Grants awarded for each work range from $500 to $3,000. Apply now

The Institut Français helps American publishers offset the cost of acquiring the rights to French works. Grant beneficiaries are selected by the Institut Français in Paris. The amount awarded cannot exceed the amount of the advance paid to the French publisher for the acquisition of rights and varies from €500 to €7,000. Apply now
