The Cultural Service of the French Consulate in Boston wishes you a Happy Holiday with your friends and family!

 

"Le Vent dans les Voiles de l’Hermione" is a contest organized by the Cultural and Educational Services of the Consulate General of France in Boston for the arrival of the frigate l’Hermione (Lafayette’s ship when he sailed to America in 1780) in Boston on July 11, 2015 and the United Nation’s upcoming Climate Change Conference in Paris in December 2015. Students in French are invited to build an eco-friendly sail that illustrates the history of the Hermione and promotes environmental awareness.

Your class’s sail must be submitted by March 15, 2015. The results of the contest will be disclosed on March 27, 2015, during the “Matinée de la Francophonie”.

To enter the contest, please submit your application to Magali Boutiot at magali.boutiot@diplomatie.gouv.fr by February 15, 2015 (download the application form here).

The CLEMI (Centre de Liaison de l'Enseignement et des Médias d'Information) offers a number of online pedagogical resources: teacher kits and online exhibits, an Android and IOS app, a collection of 2014 newspaper headlines, Infodoc (a monthly report on media), a newsletter, teacher handouts, and online recordings of Plantu's and Jean-François' Leroy analyses of some of the former's most iconic cartoons.

The Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF) aims at strengthening English-language instruction in French schools by establishing a native speaker presence. Each year, over 1,100 American citizens and permanent residents teach English in public schools across all regions of metropolitan France and in the overseas departments of French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion.

Chateaubriand Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS) is a fellowship program offered by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the U.S. It targets outstanding Ph.D. students from American universities who seek to engage in research in France, in any discipline of the Humanities and Social Sciences. HSS Chateaubriand fellows are selected through a merit-based competition via a binational collaborative process involving expert evaluators from both countries.

This travel grant aims at giving students enrolled in an American University an opportunity to discover France. It is open to sophomore, junior & senior students who are enrolled in a double major, including one major in French and one major in another discipline. Consideration will also be given to students enrolled in a minor/certificate in French and majoring in another subject.

Show a selection of French films unreleased in the United States to your classes!

The Discovery Selection offers a variety of recent French films not yet released in the United States to American colleges and universities. This selection, made by French sales agents and producers, represents the impressive diversity of contemporary French cinema. These films are available on DVD or blu-ray for screening in classes, film festivals, or special events, for a very small fee.

L'Association Canadienne d'Education de Langue Française (ACELF) propose un stage de perfectionnement du 7 au 16 juillet 2015 à Québec (Canada). Les enseignants (tous niveaux) et directeurs d'écoles sont invités à déposer leur candidature avant le 17 février 2015. L'ACELF décerne quatre bourses chaque année.

Grades 7-12 (levels 01-5): February 21 - March 22, 2015

The AATF's 80th edition of the Grand Concours will take place next February and March! This annual competition offers students of French in grades 1-12,  in all 50 states and abroad, to compete against other students with similar educational background for prizes. Contact your local chapter for information on enrolling your students.

Registration by January 31st

For the ninth edition of this annual contest, the challenge is to explore the hospitality of French language and its reception of foreign words. The competition is open to all levels of secondary classes, and it consists of producing literary works with artistic dimensions on one or many of the selected words. This year's words are: amalgame, bravo, cibler, grigri (ou gris-gris), inuit(e), kermesse, kitsch, sérendipité, wiki, zénitude. Allez-y !
