AUSTIN, TX | NOVEMBER 8-12

Austin welcomes creative delegates from its sister city of Angers, France to the Live Music Capital of the World, to celebrate the cultural connection between the two cities. Angers Week features French music, cinema, art, culture and technological innovation from Angers. Austin Angers Creative facilitates Angers Week and the French counter-festival Austin Week to present the unique collaborative exchange between the two cities to the greater public.

AUTHORS ON TOUR AND LECTURES
AUSTIN, TX | NOVEMBER 6

The 2016 Texas Book Festival features Sophie Glasser, French illustrator, designer and author of Le Big Manual: a book of 182 family activities that invites children of all ages to craft, cook and experiment. At the festival, Sophie Glasser and her publisher Marie de Crécy from Supereditions, are hosting a workshop with DIY activities from Le Big Manual.

HOUSTON, TX | NOVEMBER 7

Pap Ndiaye, historian, specializing in the social history of the United States with a focus on its minorities, gives a lecture at Rice University: The French Debate on Reparations for Slavery: A Pragmatic Approach. This program is organized with the support of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the U.S.
Pap Ndiaye holds a doctorate from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) where he was a lecturer before being selected in 2012 as Professor at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po).

SAN MARCOS, TX | NOVEMBER 8 & 10

The Department of Modern Languages at Texas State University presents two public lectures:
- The French Grandeur: Urban Spaces, Social Life and Celebration of Antiquity in 18th and 19th Century France by Dr. Angela Lombardi (UTSA). Dr. Lombardi's research focuses on management of historic built heritage and archaeology within contemporary urban landscapes in an international context.
- The Holocaust in France: insights from survivors' oral histories by Maël Le Noc. Mr. Le Noc is a PhD student at Texas State University focusing on historical GIS and the Geography of the Holocaust, with a focus on family separations.

FORT WORTH, TX | NOVEMBER 11

As part of the exhibition Monet: The Early Years at the Kimbell Museum of Art, Richard R. Brettell, founding director, The Edith O'Donnell Institute of Art History; Margaret McDermott Distinguished Chair, The University of Texas at Dallas, gives a lecture reconstructing Claude Monet's submissions to the 1872 Exhibition of Independent Artists in the context of his fellow exhibitors, including Boudin, Renoir, Pissarro, Degas, Sisley, and artists long forgotten. The lecture examines the extensive criticism of the Independents as well as Édouard Manet's decision not to join his friends and to show instead at the Salon of 1874.

HOUSTON, TX | NOVEMBER 22 - FEBRUARY 19, 2017

Enchanted Promenade captivates downtown Houston visitors at Discovery Green with its ten colorful, giant peony bouquets by TILT, a French light and art design studio. TILT's work focuses on the exploration of light and its interplay with art, architecture and space. They aim to provide unexpected and enchanting experiences by altering scale and engaging the environment in unique and unusual ways. Enchanted Promenade marks their first presentation in the United States.

AUSTIN, TX | ON VIEW UNTIL DECEMBER 10

Nuclear power plants, paper mills, coal mines – for twenty years, Tania Mouraud’s video and sound installations have shown the immensity of environmental industrial sites around the world to audiences removed from a direct experience of such sites’ power and effect. The Visual Arts Center of the University of Texas at Austin, with the support of the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Houston, presents the exhibition Everyday Ogres in Austin curated by Allison Myers, a new work that expands Mouraud's efforts to the Gulf Coast.

AUSTIN, TX | NOVEMBER 11

The Austin Film Society joins in the celebrations of Angers Week with two screenings. On Friday night, AFS screens a new Angers favorite, Vincent, a distinctly French fantasy comedy by Christophe Van Rompaey about a young man who gains magical powers in water. The film was a favorite of the Angers' Premiers Plans festival and will be introduced by Premiers Plans director, Xavier Massé. The film will be preceded by a short.

As part of Angers Week, the Austin Film Society's Saturday afternoon animated program features a family-friendly selection of some of the best French shorts to be discovered from Angers' Premiers Plans festival.

DALLAS, TX | NOVEMBER 13

The Ultra-Seeing film series is presented by the School of Arts, Technology and Emerging Communication (ATEC) at the University of Texas at Dallas and their French partner, Light Cone, at the Nasher Sculpture Center with the support of the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Houston. Two structural films are screened in confrontation with films by local artists.

On the occasion of the Menil Collection's exhibition on view until January 8, 2017, Picasso: The Line, pianist and Da Camera artistic director Sarah Rothenberg presents a program inspired by the work of Pablo Picasso.

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX | NOVEMBER 19

Dirtyphonics is a French electronic music band from Paris, consisting of members Charly, PitchIn, and Pho. Their music style is based on electro, dubstep, drumstep, drum and bass and trap. Since 2006, they have been turning heads with their unique live act, combining the efficiency of a DJ set with the energy of a rock concert.
