HOUSTON, TX | JANUARY 26 | 7PM-1AM

The Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Houston and the Moody Center for the Arts at Rice University are proud to present A Night of Philosophy and Ideas, a free event open to the public, addressing the theme of Ecology, to be held at the Moody Center for the Arts on January 26.

Taking place for the first time in Houston TX, the unique event will bring philosophers, musicians, artists, and authors from around the world together with the Houston community through a series of conversations and performances from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Throughout the night and into the early morning, philosophers and performers will present topics and debate ideas on a wide range of issues pertaining to ecology, including how environmental concerns intersect with ethics, religion, anthropology and social justice.

The event is produced in connection with La Nuit des idées, an annual world-wide event organized by the Institut français, Paris.

TEXAS, OKLAHOMA, ARKANSAS | APPLICATION DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 3

Each year in March, on the occasion of the Francophonie celebrations, the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Houston organizes the French Cultures Festival (FCF) in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. As a celebration of the diversity of Francophonie, it brings together people who not only speak French, but also feel, in one way or another, connected to French cultures and the Francophone community.

The FCF gathers many institutional partners from diplomatic representations, museums, universities, schools and other organizations. Last year, over 40 cultural and educational events were showcased during the Festival in the three states covered by the Cultural Service.

If you are planning to organize an event related to French language and culture in March 2019 and would like to include your event in the official 2019 French Cultures Festival calendar, please fill out the event application by February 3.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

APPLICATION DEADLINE: JANUARY 8

The Chateaubriand Fellowship is a grant offered by the Embassy of France in the United States. Every year, it allows doctoral students enrolled in American universities to conduct research in France for 4 to 9 months. Chateaubriand fellows receive a stipend, a round trip ticket to France, as well as health insurance.

Are you ready to expand your horizons and share your language and culture with French students? Applications are now open for the 2019-2020 school year. The Teaching Assistant Program in France offers you the opportunity to work in France for 7 months, teaching English to French students of all ages. The program is open to native English speakers between the age of 20 and 35, speaking French at a B1 level minimum.

The 2019 call for applications for Etant donnés—the French-American Fund for Contemporary Art—is open! American institutions and curators, as well as French artists can apply until February 1st, 2019 for projects taking place between June 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020.

JANUARY-OCTOBER 2019

Invite a French-speaking author to a panel discussion, reading, signing, or symposium. Find out the list of authors available to travel and meet audiences across the U.S. this Fall. With limited funding available, priority will be given to institutions that submit a detailed project for an American audience, especially events with wide visibility such as book fairs and multidisciplinary festivals. To apply, please read the application procedures and fill out the application form. We look forward to working with you on these projects!

French synthwave artist Carpenter Brut will be joining American industrial metal band Ministry on it U.S. tour, with performances at Gas Monkey Live in Dallas, TX on December 12, House of Blues Houston, TX on December 13, and The Aztec Theatre in San Antonio, TX on December 14th.

AUSTIN, TX | DECEMBER 31 | 9PM

French producer Dombresky will be part of the New Year's Eve celebration to be held at Warehouse 305 in Austin, TX. He will be performing along with British electronic music bands Nero and Feed Me.

A portrayal of an artist on a quest for perfection who became a global icon, a passionate woman with an extraordinary destiny, Maria by Callas is the story of a remarkable life told in the first person, with the voice of French actress Fanny Ardant. The 2017 French documentary fim, directed by Tom Volf, will be screened this month in Texas (Dallas, Houston, Plano, San Antonio), Oklahoma (Tulsa) and Arkansas (Little Rock).

This month, screening of 2005 French feature-length nature documentary March of the Penguins (La Marche de l'empereur) directed and co-written by Luc Jacquet at Alamo Drafthouse Mueller in Austin, TX, and Alamo Drafthouse Marketplace and Stone Oak in San Antonio, TX.

AUSTIN, TX | DECEMBER 9 | 1PM

The Alliance Française of Austin Ciné-Club Presents The White Knights (Les chevaliers blancs), a 2015 Belgian-French drama film directed by Joachim Lafosse and inspired by the events of the Zoé's Ark controversy in 2007. The film stars Vincent Lindon, Louise Bourgoin, Valérie Donzelli and Reda Kateb. Sreening to be held at Austin Film Society.
