The French Cultures Festival (Mois de la Francophonie) showcases the diversity of French cultures during the month of March. It provides opportunities for the public to experience the language and cultures from France and the francophone world through an eclectic program.

Free outdoor and family-friendly concert featuring: Scott Tixier (France), Andréanne Martin (Quebec) and David Caceres (Houston, TX).

WORLD WAR I CENTENNIAL

UNTIL MARCH 31 | FONDREN LIBRARY AT RICE UNIVERSITY | HOUSTON, TX

The exhibition is curated by the French non-profit Cercle de Valmont in collaboration with the Woodson Research Center to honor the memory of the American soldiers who went to combat with the allies on French soil. The exhibit shares two soldiers’ stories from two unpublished sources: a scrapbook album retracing the World War I experience of Galveston native and Rice graduate James S. Waters, Jr. and a private archive of 450 unpublished photographs taken in the trenches by a young French soldier, Paul Gueneau.

Presented by Et Voilà Théâtre, the exhibition is about the women, the soldiers from the colonies and the animals (horses, donkeys, dogs, birds, even camels and zebras…) as "war effort" whose contribution played a crucial part in the First World War, but remains seldom known. The exhibition pays a tribute to them all  by telling their story and their sacrifice.

Presented by Et Voilà Théâtre, The War of Blanche Maupas (Blanche Maupas, l'Amour fusillé), a play by Jean-Paul Alègre, is the true story of Blanche Maupas who fought for 19 years to clear her husband’s name unfairly executed in World War I.
