Are you always searching for new pedagogic resources but unsure how to nagvigate through all that is available online?

We are excited to share with you the launch of the new online platform FRED, which offers free access to more than 2,000 educational resources to learn and teach French. The platform contains a search engine allowing users to filter by subject matter, geographic region and media type. All the resources are either from French public agencies (the Institut Français, the National Centre for Distance Education – CNED, Canopé, TV5MONDE, RFI, etc.) or from key French EdTech stakeholders.

The FRED platform is part of 33 measures adopted under the plan for the French language and multilingualism presented by the French President on 20 March 2018. By making online educational services more visible and accessible, FRED aims to boost the attractiveness of French around the world.

Starting this year, L'École Française du Maine is an official course and exam center for the DELF (Diplôme d’Etudes de Langue Française) and the DALF (diplome avancé en langue française), which are the official qualification awarded by the French Ministry of Education certifying a level of fluency in French. It is the only exam center in Maine and north of Boston, alleviating the previous need to travel to Boston to take the DELF exams.

All courses are taught in French by native and certified speakers of the language and closely follow the directives of the CERCL and the French Ministry of Education. Classes run all year long and all DELF/DALF levels are welcome (from elementary students to adults).

Please follow the Read More link and contact Laura Piehl with any questions (delf@frenchschool.me)

Having just started their activities this summer, the Alliançe Française du Maine is hosting a French film screening this Thursday in Portland at 6pm.

The film in question is called "Voyageur 1608", produced by Dreamland Productions (http://dreamlandtechnology.com/filmproduction/). The film is a fictional documentary that retraces the history of "Nouvelle France" in North America. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with French native Alban Maino, who runs Dreamland Productions. The Alliance Française du Maine is excited to have this opportunity to discuss the history of the French presence in America, particularly given Maine's rich "Franco" history.

We were thrilled to participate once again in the Massachusetts Foreign Language Association conference, held in Springfield from Oct. 24th-26th. We gave a workshop on our resources for French teachers and support for immersion programs, and participated in the annual meeting of the American Association of French Teachers of Eastern Massachusetts. We are also pleased that our colleague from the French Embassy, education attaché Fabrice Jaumont, was the keynote speaker and discussed the benefits of Dual Language Education and the Billingual Revolution across the country.

If you are interested in receiving a copy of our presentation, please email noah.ouellette@diplomatie.gouv.fr

This month, we visited the French immersion program at the Manthala George, Jr. Global Studies School in Brockton, Massachusetts. Launched in 2018, the program consists of one kindergarten and one first grade class, and school officials plan to add a new year until at least 5th grade, perhaps beyond. The program is a two-way model, with one third of students have a Francophone background, the other two-thirds an anglophone or other language background.

The French government has signficant ressources to support and advocate for the implementation of French immersion programs in New England. Significant research demonstrates that immersion programs are the most effective language acquistion method and provide numerous other developmental benefits. Please contact Noah Ouellette if your school would be interested in starting such a program (noah.ouellette@diplomatie.gouv.fr)
