2018 WAS FANTASTIC...
Here's to 2019!

Happy holidays from the Cultural Services' team of the French Consulate in San Francisco! On this occasion, let's take a look back at the incredible year that is soon coming to an end!

In 2018 we... completed our first After Tomorrow season, for which we collaborated with many inspiring partners, institutions and people, we welcomed writer Sylvie Denis and cartoonist Antoine Maillard - who also travelled to Portland & Seattle - for our writing residency program A Room with a View, we started working on a cooperation project between Oakland and Saint-Denis and the role of cities' artistic liveliness in the building of and inclusive metropolis, we supported numerous cultural events in the Bay Area and beyond:

The Game Developers Conference, with game designers Tatiana Vilela dos Santos (Spoons) and Florent Maurin (Bury me, my love);
Gray Area Festival, with multimedia artist Nicolas Maigret;
The first edition of MUTEK.SF and a special NightLife at California Academy of Sciences, where art and tech intertwined in the middle of the jungle!
Recombinant Festival, at Gray Area, with Chronostasis by Franck Vigroux and Antoine Schmitt;
Dataprint: The Installation, a multimedia installation at the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose;
GLAS Animation Festival, with animation artist Boris Labbé;
Two "After Tomorrow" exhibitions at the French Residence, curated respectively by re.riddle and Christine Duval Contemporary;
A student hackathon to encourage Franco-US integration in higher education;
Ebbing Sounds, an interdisciplinary symposium featuring DJ Low Jack;
Workshop "Teaching French Through Video Games", by Alexis Hassler;
We also talked about literature with Leïla Slimani, Eric Vuillard, Edouard Louis, Lionel Ruffel;
And watched lots of French movies thanks to Mill Valley Film Festival, BAMPFA, San Francisco Green Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, Frameline Festival, Sacramento French Film Festival, San Francisco International Film Festival, Novel Ciné, Théâtre du Lycée Français...

Now, a sneak peek at what 2019 has in store for us!

In 2019, we will... enjoy the first edition of the Night of Ideas in San Francisco, an exceptional event taking place at the Main Library on February 2, 2019 in collaboration with SFMOMA and SFPL (stay tuned, more information coming soon!), further our cooperation project between Oakland and Saint-Denis, welcome two new residents for A Room with a View, inaugurate the first Pavillon France, initiated by Business France, at the Game Developers Conference in March...

You can also mark your calendars for: director Mia Hansen-Løve coming to Berkeley for a film series presented at BAMPFA (January), screening of No and Me at Théâtre du Lycée Français with director Zabou Breitman in attendance (January 23), award-winning writer Meryem Alaoui coming to Stanford to talk about her novel La vérité sort de la bouche du cheval (February 14), the first edition of French contemporary art festival PULSIONS in San Francisco (February), Santa Cruz (March) and Oakland (December), JR's major installation The Chronicles of San Francisco opening at SFMOMA on April 25... and much more to be announced!

Last but not least, many heartfelt thanks to all our partners who make all of this possible: Institut Français, French American Cultural Society, French Bee, Transatlantique Private Wealth, and our generous donors.

Happy holidays and see you all on February 2, 2019 between 7pm and 2am (yes, 2am!) at the San Francisco Main Library for the Night of Ideas!
