"Becoming Modern: Nineteenth-Century French Drawings" is on view this month at the Menil Collection. This exhibition celebrates the remarkable holdings of French drawings at the Morgan Library & Museum and the Menil Collection, institutions with an ongoing collaboration to foster meaningful conversation about drawing.

Considered one of the most beautiful and influential movies ever made, "Hiroshima Mon Amour" is based on a screenplay by influential writer Marguerite Duras. The masterpiece chronicles a brief relationship in post-World War II Japan between a French actress and a Japanese architect. The film screens at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.

MIDLAND, TX I FEB 12 - APRIL 17

The Midland County Public Library is hosting world-renowned picture book author and illustrator Hervé Tullet for the Texas premiere of his exhibition, “Mix it Up.” Coming from Paris, France, Hervé Tullet will be in Midland to discuss the inspiration for his beloved children's books. Tullet and the students will examine color and shape as they collaborate to create a giant mural 4-6 p.m February 12 at the Centennial branch. The exhibit will be on view until April 17, 2015.

To celebrate the publication of the first in a four-volume catalogue raisonné of the work of Francis Picabia, scholar and Picabia authority William A. Camfield, professor emeritus of art history at Rice University, will discuss his magnum opus and sign copies at the Menil Collection in Houston. Camfield will speak briefly at 7:30 p.m.

Dr. Roy Howat, musicologist specialized in French music and pianist, Keyboard Research Fellow, Royal Academy of Music, London will present the lecture "Baudelaire, Fauré, Debussy, and the flowering of French mélodie." The lecture-recital will include musical excerpts played by Dr. Howat on the piano.
