We are pleased to partner with IU Department of French and Italian & Black Film Center/ Archive and UW Cinematheque for a workshop and multiple screenings to explore the legacy of Paulin Soumanou Vieyra (1925-1987), an influencial pionner, practitioner and scholar of African cinema and media as it was being formed in the decolonization era of the 1960s.

This exhibit features historical and recent work by Louis Cane, Noël Dolla and Claude Viallat, members of Supports/Surfaces, a shifting group of some twelve French painters who began collaborating and showing together in 1966. It will revisit Cane, Dolla and Viallat’s past work, while charting the evolution of their practices up through the present day.

Europe-based feminist art and culture magazine Petunia has created Passages, a weekend symposium of performances, screenings, readings, and discussions which include French artists Alexandra Midal, Emilie Pitoiset, Valerie Chartrain, Elsa Dorlin (via Skype) as part of the year long Goethe Pop Up Minneapolis. Supported by Etant Donnés Contemporary Art, a program developed by FACE Foundation and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States.
