Educational Resources Around the Voyage of l'Hermione

L'Hermione has set sail for America! After several stops further South, this reconstitution of the ship on which the Marquis de Lafayette sailed in 1780 will reach New England on July 8th, anchoring in Newport, RI. A series of events and programs are organized in the coming months, leading up to the arrival of the ship. There are many online resources you can use to teach your class about the ship and what it represents for the history of Franco-American relations.

The Friends of Hermione-Lafayette in America are organizing educational initiatives such as a cycle of four webinars for students of ages 12 to 18. These webinars are an excellent free educational resource for students wishing to learn more about the ship and how different aspects of sea travel have changed over the years. For more information, please click here.

There is also a website dedicated to educational resources in French on the theme of Lafayette and his time, from l'Hermione and seafaring to the Enlightenment and the French Ancien Régime.
