Films on the Green 2018

Have you seen all the shows on Netflix? Do you feel like you could really enjoy an evening off before the beginning of the school year? Come and join us for two nights of French Comedy at Films on the Green!

Films on the Green is an outdoor film festival organized every year by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States. Movies are screened on the beach in Miami, in public parks in New York and in University quads in Massachusetts. The festival has also had some major events in the Boston area since 2013, and this year, it will take place at the beginning of September at Tufts University in Medford.

All events are free and open to everyone.

The Intouchables is a French film released in 2011 and directed by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano. It quickly became the second biggest box office hit in France and the biggest outside France. It narrates the encounter of Driss (Omar Sy), a young man from the parisian suburbs faking a caregiver career to take advantage of unemployment benefits, and Philippe (François Cluzet), a paraplegic aristocrat. Their relationship is at first rough and difficult, but a great complicity develops between the two men.

The movie will be screened in French with English subtitles. The event is free. Free Parking available.

Haute Cuisine is a French comedy released in 2012 and directed by Christian Vincent, inspired by a true story. Hortense Laborie (Catherine Frot), a renowned chef from Périgord, is astonished when the President of the Republic (played by the very French Jean d'Ormesson) appoints her his personal cook, responsible for creating all his meals at the Élysée Palace. Despite jealous resentment from the other kitchen staff, Hortense quickly establishes herself, thanks to her indomitable spirit. The authenticity of her cooking soon seduces the President, but the corridors of power are littered with traps.
