Educational Bulletin

The New Year kicks off with exciting grants and special programs for both students and teachers. Watch out for January 15th as many programs have their application deadline on that date. Find out more on French classes opening in 2016 and teacher training opportunities. Also, discover a list of the 2015 translated books and which French city made first student city for the fourth time!

HIGHLIGHT

EFDM (Education Française for the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex Dallas) has launched a new FLAM program (Français Langue Maternelle ) in 2016. French classes for 4 to 6 year olds started on January 9th at Tyler Street United Methodist Church in Dallas. The Fall term will begin in September 2016. GRANTS AND PROGRAMS
DEADLINE: JANUARY 15th 2016

The American Society of French Academic Palms (AFSAP) awards two scholarships ($4000 each) for high school and college students learning French. The scholarships go toward a four-week minimum study program in a French country of their choice during the 2016 summer. Criteria and applications can be found on the AFSAP website  below. DEADLINE: JANUARY 15th 2016

Candidates must be U.S. citizens, be affiliated with an American college or university, become members of the SPFFA at the time of their application and have a sufficient command of spoken and written French to pursue their proposed studies and/or research in France or in Québec. Applications in all disciplines are considered, but applicants in literature, art, music, history, social sciences and communications have priority.

DEADLINE: JANUARY 15th 2016

Each year the Jean et Marie-Louise Dufrenoy scholarships enable two American students in sciences (mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, geology, botany) or in technology (engineering, computer science, etc.) to pursue further studies in France during a full academic year within the student’s own field. If there is no candidate in any scientific discipline qualifying for a scholarship, the scholarships may be awarded to students who, after receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree, would start a career in the fields of education or diplomacy.

Teaching Assistant Programs
DEADLINE: JANUARY 15th 2016

The Teaching Assistant Program in France offers students the opportunity to work in France for 7 months, teaching English to French students of all ages.

You can also host a French teaching assistant! The French Teaching Internship Program offers U.S. schools and universities the opportunity to welcome young French educators to train as teaching interns in their classrooms.

DEADLINE: JANUARY 20th 2016

The Chateaubriand Fellowship Call for applications for the academic year 2016/2017 is open. Every year, it allows doctorate students enrolled in American universities to conduct research in France for up to 9 months.

DEADLINE: MARCH 13th, 2016 (Midnight, EST)

The French Embassy in the United States and the FACE Foundation are accepting applications for the Partner University Fund (PUF). PUF promotes innovative collaborations of excellence in research and education between French and American institutions of higher education. The program supports emerging transatlantic partnerships with the potential to continue beyond the initial 3-year grant.

DEADLINE: MAY 16th 2016

Thanks to a generous contribution from the Andrew W. Mellon foundation, the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l'Homme will cofinance transatlantic collaboration projects in digital humanities and more specifically in "digital philology". By financing collaborative projects between American and European researchers the FMSH-Mellon will support those who wish to renew the area of literary studies through digital tools.

CLEMI : Creating a webradio on climate
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: JANUARY 15th 2016
TRAINING DATES: APRIL 4-15, 2016

France hosted the 21st international climate conference, COP21, from November 30th to December 12th.The French Embassy in the United States and the CLEMI (Centre de Liaison de l'Enseignement et des Medias d'Information) are making available to teachers of FLE (French as foreign language) a Webradio publication platform on the topic of CLIMATE 2015. This medium will enable students to practice French language with the help of oral and written educational work. The training session will aim to train teachers beyond the use of digital recorders, on the didactic and educational approaches of radio language.

Thanks to the invaluable help of 1100 of the French Embassy's Book Department contacts in publishing, a near-complete list of 2015’s titles translated from French to English has been created. This list is not exhaustive and may not be error-free. If you know of any translated titles that are not on our list, or if you have spotted a mistake (reprint listed, books not distributed in the US, etc.) please send the Book Department an email at 972livre@gmail.com.

Paris has come out on top in the QS best student cities rankings for the fourth year running.

The ranking, compiled by higher education data experts QS, assigns cities scores based on the diversity of their student body, quality of life, opportunities for graduate employment, affordability and the quality of their universities.
