This year again, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy are present at SXSW, the annual world-renowned celebration of music, film and digital culture. France will be widely represented in the official program of the three festivals, the Pavillion Business France in Trade Show (Business France) with 15 French start-ups and the French Tech Club which gathers and showcases the best of France in SXSW.

The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston presents the exhibition "Double Life" which features works by the internationally celebrated artists Jérôme Bel, Wu Tsang, and Haegue Yang. Are part of the exhibition Jérôme Bel's performance "Cédric Andrieux" and video "Véronique Doisneau".

The amateur French Theater troupe Et Voilà Théatre is presenting "Comme S'il En Pleuvait" (Out of Control), a play by Sébastien Thiéry. The play is presented in conjunction with the art exhibition "Beyond Appearances" curated by Marie-Hélène Chatelain during the entire month of March.

Compagnie Käfig will make its Houston debut at the Society for the Performing Arts in April 2015 showcasing "Correria Agwa". The French artistic director and choreographer Mourad Merzouki, lives for the creative revelations sparked at intersections of cultures, styles and disciplines. The compagnie gives master classes in local public schools during the month of March.

Considered one of the most promising European artists of his generation, Loris Gréaud presents "The Unplayed Notes Museum" at Dallas Contemporary. This large-scale multi-media installation is on view until March 21.

Panel discussion on "The Art Effect" was organized at UT Dallas on January 15 with French participants Nicolas Bourriaud, Director of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris and Eric Mangion, Director of the National Centre of Contemporary Art of the Villa Arson in Nice were in Dallas on this occasion, watch the video HERE.

This installation comprises major paintings and sculptures that span the early 20th century to the present. The first gallery opens with the art of Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, then moves to the Cubist avant-garde that flowered in France.

A diverse selection of artworks, gifts and acquisitions that have helped to shape and explore the McNay Art Museum's collection. Among the diverse works are French sculptures of the late 19th century including sculptures by Rodin.

"Becoming Modern: Nineteenth-Century French Drawings" is on view at the Menil Collection. This exhibition celebrates the remarkable holdings of French drawings at the Morgan Library & Museum and the Menil Collection, institutions with an ongoing collaboration to foster meaningful conversation about drawing. The show is comprised of 5 works on paper by the artists: Eugène Delacroix, Georges Seurat, Odilon Redon, Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Cézanne.

Teachers of French, join the Alliance Française - El Paso on March 25 at the University of Texas El Paso for a 6-hour workshop led by Canadian education specialist Dominique Denis and learn how to use French songs in your classroom. More information and RSVP HERE.

The Texas French Symposium is a statewide competition where French high-school teachers invite their students to compete in oral events, academic excercises and art performances. This year, the Texas French Symposium will be held at Klein Forest High School on March 27th and 28th. The theme for 2015 is "Les Impressionnistes en France".

Tournées Film Festival is a program of the FACE Foundation, in partnership with the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, which aims to bring French cinema to American college and university campuses. The three participating universities are the Texas Christian University (Fort Worth, TX), University of Arkansas (Fayetteville, AR) and Texas Tech University (Lubbock, Texas).

St Thomas University screens "Coco Before Chanel" directed by Anne Fontaine, a story about the rise of Coco Chanel from obscure beginnings to the heights of the fashion world.

Dallas VideoFest presents "A Conversation with François Truffaut" at 14 Pews in Houston. This documentary focuses on Truffaut's playfulness as a visual storyteller and includes excerpts from his films.

The Consulate of Switzerland in Houston presents, "Win Win", a comedy directed by Claudio Tonetti at the Alliance Française de Houston.

The 11th Annual Houston Jewish Film Festival continues its tradition of presenting an entertaining, thought-provoking comprised of the best Jewish and Israeli films from across the world. The Festival features French film "L'Antiquaire", directed by François Margolin.

The Southern Methodist University presents the 19th Annual French Film Festival in collaboration with the French Department. All screenings located at the Hughes Trigg Student Center are free and open to all students.

The Alliance Française of Dallas screens "Queen of Montreuil" directed by Sólveig Anspach at Richland College.

"On the Way to School" ("Sur le Chemin de l'Ecole") directed by Pascal Plisson, 2014 Best Documentary Award Winner, screens at the Circle Cinema in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

As part of the Da Camera at The Menil series, pianist Sarah Rothenberg and Camera Young Artists will perform the program "Becoming Modern: Music and Art in Paris" in conjunction with the exhibit Becoming Modern: 19th Century French Drawings.

The Virtuosi of Houston Young Artists Chamber Orchestra are in Paris for a week residency to study and perform at the Conservatoire de Paris. This international musical and cultural experience is intended to build a bridge between the Houston amateur orchestra and the Conservatoire de Paris.

The French Cultures Festival official playlist features French artists Air Bag One, The Inspector Cluzo and The Dove and the Wolf alongside local band Deep Cuts who are performing at the FCF kick-off concert on March 13 in Houston. Join French cultural historian Annie Cohen-Solal as she discusses the enigmatic artist in her newest book, "Mark Rothko", featuring new biographical information based on recently revealed archival sources.

Lynda Kelly, Rice University PhD and Frank Kelly, architect invite you to a lecture on March 25 at the Alliance Française de Houston. The speakers combine their knowledge of France's history, architecture and literature for a fascinating illustrated lecture and presentation on Carcassone and Cathar Castles.

A favorite author of mysteries set in France returns to Houston. The Alliance Française of Houston sponsors a book reading with Cara Black author of the popular Aimée Leduc “arrondissement by arrondissement” series at Murder by the Book.

The Midland County Public Library hosted world-renowned picture book author and illustrator Hervé Tullet for the Texas premiere of his exhibition, “Mix it Up.” Coming from Paris, Hervé Tullet was in Midland last month and collaborated with students to create a giant mural.

A new reading room and bookshop, Albertine Books in French and English, opened in September 2014 at the French Embassy in New York. An accompanying online shop www.albertine.com has just launched and offers the most comprehensive selection of French-language books and English translations in the United States. Curated French Corners sections in independent bookstores across the United States offer a taste of French literature throughout the country. A repertoire of French songs from Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour, Edith Piaf, Lara Fabian and Julien Clerc will be performed by Deborah Boily, Terry Jones and Jerry Atwood at Café Brussels. A special menu will be available for purchase at the Belgian bistro.

Houston-Nice Sister City Committee will highlight a long tradition this year by having the Carnaval in Houston with the theme “Music”. The 6th Annual Carnaval de Nice is organized at Café Brussels from 6:30 - 8:30 PM. Costumes are welcome!

To celebrate French gastronomy, the Cultural Service developed a "French Cultures Festival Treasure Map" where Houston French restaurants offer a special "French Cultures Festival" menu or dish. Participating restaurants include: Artisans, Bite Macarons, Café Brussels, Cinq- La Colombe d’Or, Georges Bistro, L’Olivier, Ouisie’s Table and Sweet Paris.
