MARFA, TX | MAY 25–27

2018 marks the third and final year of the Marfa Sounding series. Taking place over three consecutive Memorial Day weekends beginning in 2016, Marfa Sounding expands on the best-known history of Marfa, TX as a site for the permanent installation of large-scale works by Judd and his contemporaries. Co-presented by Marfa Live Arts and Fieldwork: MarfaMarfa Sounding 2018 will showcase Paris-based artist Tarek Atoui’s examination of sound, place, and the social practice of improvisation across the varied landscapes of Marfa, TX. All performances are free and open to the public. The project is supported by FACE Foundation and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.

DALLAS, TX | MAY 6-28

SOLUNA International Music & Art Festival is bringing together international artists with Dallas’s finest arts organizations. An annual, three-week multidisciplinary event, the festival showcases internationally-acclaimed guest soloists, visual artists and performing artists alongside leading Dallas-based companies and ensembles. For its fourth edition, the program of the festival includes the presentation of works from two French artists, sculptor and recording artist Sébastien Leon as well as visual artist Antoine Wagner. The presentations of these works are supported by the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Houston.

Public Art of the University of Houston System, along with Buffalo Bayou Partnership, will co-host Talking Color: Celebrating Carlos Cruz-Diez in Houston.

Carlos Cruz-Diez, Jr., director of Atelier Cruz-Diez Paris and son of the artist, will explore his father’s work in an illustrated conversation with Mari Carmen Ramírez, Director of the International Center for the Arts of the Americas at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Spatial Chromointerference is a unique site-specific environment by world-renowned artist Carlos Cruz-Diez in the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern. The artist, who has spent his professional career working and teaching between both Paris and Caracas is considered to be one of the fathers and greatest figures of Kinetic and Optical art. His work will be on view at the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern from May 12, 2018 to January 13, 2019.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: JUNE 7

Created in 2004, the New Music Fund (formerly Fund for Contemporary Music) was initiated by FACE Foundation and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy to encourage new commissions, residencies, masterclasses, performances and tours involving contemporary composers, musicians and ensembles. Conceived in partnership with Institut français, French Ministry of Culture, SACEM and Florence Gould Foundation, the fund also fosters co-creations between French and American composers.

FALL 2018

Invite a French-speaking author to a panel discussion, reading, signing, or symposium. Find out the list of authors available to travel and meet audiences across the U.S. this Fall. With limited funding available, priority will be given to institutions that submit a detailed project for an American audience, especially events with wide visibility such as book fairs and multidisciplinary festivals. HIGHER EDUCATION

APPLICATION DEADLINE: MAY 25

The Transatlantic Mobility Program is one of the flagship actions of the Cultural services of the French Embassy in favor of increasing and diversifying transatlantic student mobility. US universities and community colleges have until May 25 to submit their proposals. The most competitive proposals will demonstrate how limited resources can effectively mobilize the greatest number of U.S. students to study abroad in France. Grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded.

The applications for the 2018-2019 season of Tournées Film Festival are still open! Apply for a grant to fund a French film festival on your campus. The Tournées Film Festival, a program of FACE Foundation and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, supports French film festivals on college campuses in the U.S. It offers the best of contemporary and classic French films (recently released in the U.S.) with a wide variety of genres. Professors, departments, student organizations, film clubs, or other university-affiliated institutions are eligible to apply.

VIRTUAL REALITY

APPLICATIONS: ALL YEAR LONG

French Immersion is a new program aiming to increase the export of French augmented reality projects and immersive experiences to the United States. Applicants must be affiliated with a French institution or production company and present at least one project selected/nominated by a US festival or programmed by a US institution.

The program is presented by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, in partnership with Unifrance, the Institut français, the CNC, and FACE Foundation.
