BILINGUAL EDUCATION |
DEADLINE: AUGUST 20th
The Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the FACE Foundation are launching a new Fund for French Dual and Immersion Programs in order to support and expand bilingual education in the United States. Teachers and administrators in American K-12 public schools, school districts and state agencies who manage dual language and immersion programs are invited to apply for grant a by August 20th. The objectives of the Fund for Dual Language and Immersion Programs are to:
1. Expand French-English bilingual education throughout the county, including in underserved communities where robust francophone communities reside.
2. Improve and strengthen existing French bilingual tracks.

New French Bilingual Programs
HOUSTON - AUGUST 2016
- Mark White Elementary
is the first public school in Texas to offer a French Dual Language Immersion Program for Pre-K and Kindergarten in addition to traditional instruction in English. Two French Immersion classes will be offered at both the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten level for the 2016-2017 school year. In addition, on a yearly basis, new grade levels will be added, starting with 1st grade in 2017-2018. - The Village School
will also be opening a French immersion program for students for three-year olds through fourth grade. This program is designed to support the needs of French families wishing to continue native language instruction, as well as for American families seeking a bilingual learning environment for their English-speaking children. -
Eagles on the Rock Bilingual Academy: is opening a new French bilingual program for Pre-K and Kindergarten that follows the curriculum guidelines of the French Ministry of Education. The school is also currently looking for teachers for the new academic year. |

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy work to promote French and Francophone literature and to encourage English translations of French fiction and non-fiction. SEPTEMBER 2016
Ananda Devi is a novelist and scholar born in Trois-Boutiques, Mauritius in 1957. She has published eleven novels as well as short stories and poetry, and was featured at the PEN World Voices Festival in New York in 2015. Her latest novel translated in English Eve out of her ruins features an original introduction by Nobel Prize winner J.M.G. Le Clézio, who declares Devi "a truly great writer" and

SCOLARSHIP |
The Embassy of France, country partner to the Institute of International Education’s Generation Study Abroad Program, supports new scholarships to provide financial assistance for 20 underrepresented U.S. students who wish to study in France but who do not traditionally go abroad or lack sufficient resources. American universities engaged in IIE’s Generation Study Abroad Initiative will be eligible to apply for $5,000 matching grants from the French Embassy.
