The Oklahoma City Museum of Art is the opening venue for the national tour of “Gods and Heroes: Masterpieces from the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris.” The exhibition chronicles the history of one of Europe’s most celebrated and influential art academies, while showcasing a stunning array of French masterpieces. With works that span more than two centuries, the exhibition will provide visitors an intimate view of an institution that produced some of France’s most accomplished artists and left a profound impact on Western art.

Before it was a popular children's book series, "The Adventures of Curious George" was originally titled "The Adventures of Fifi," created, written and illustrated by Hans and Margret Rey. And before they created "The Adventures of Fifi," the couple was desperate to flee Paris in advance of approaching Nazi forces. Their epic journey is depicted in a series of 25 giclee (liquid) prints on watercolor paper, drawn by illustrator Allan Drummond. The exhibition dots the halls in the Central Gallery at the Holocaust Museum Houston's Morgan Family Center.

Yann Tiersen is one of the most renowned French artists of his generation. His early albums were combined and used for the Amélie soundtrack (2001), earning him global recognition. This new album, ∞ (Infinity) is the follow up to 2011’s critically acclaimed Skyline (described by MOJO as “life affirming”, by Clash as a "...remarkable musical talent"). The artist will be in Houston in November.

HOUSTON, TX I JUNE 6

Thirty US WWII Veterans from Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma to receive the medal of Chevalier in the French Order of the Legion of Honor from the hands of Consul General of France, Sujiro SEAM at USS Texas Battleship on June 6 at 9am. This special ceremony marks the 70th anniversary of D-Day landing in Normandy, when the ship provided essential support to the allied troops on Utah Beach and Pointe du Hoc. A few days later, during the Battle of Cherbourg, France, the Battleship was struck twice by large-caliber coastal defense guns.

HOUSTON, TX I JUNE 7 OPENING CEREMONY

Eyeful Art and UP Art Studio present “Preservons La Creation” (Let’s Preserve Creation) by French-American artist Sebastien “Mr. D” Boileau, in partnership with the Texan-French Alliance for the Arts’ “Open the Door” project and the Midtown District. Mr. D, Houston’s premier muralist and owner of the acclaimed company Eyeful Art Murals & Designs, will paint the five-story, 60-foot-high by one city block-wide, 8,000-square-foot mural. A portion of proceeds raised from this mural and its related events, will fund a children’s hospital mural project in Houston.
