Each year in March, the Cultural Service of the French Embassy
in Houston coordinates the French Cultures Festival (FCF)
in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. This celebration of the diversity of "la Francophonie" brings together people who not only speak French, but also feel, in one way or another, connected to French cultures and the Francophone community. The FCF gathers many institutional partners, from diplomatic representations, museums, universities, schools and other organizations. Last year, over 30 cultural and educational events were showcased during the Festival in the three states covered by the Cultural Service. SAVE THE DATE! DaCamera of Houston
presents Sarah Rothenberg's A Proust Sonata, inspired by Proust's masterpiece, In Search of Lost Time. Rothenberg interweaves text, music and image, evoking the fashionable world of Belle Epoque salons, Proust's insights on art and music, and the connection between memory and the passage of time. Solo piano works, French art song, and Fauré's sonata for violin and piano are performed within seven tableaux based on sections of the great novel. A Proust Sonata merges art forms in order to illuminate a central theme of Proust's novel - how art can triumph over time. READ MORE

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy, the Institut Français and FACE Foundation
are now accepting applications for their publishing and translation assistance programs. You may apply directly online to the following three programs by filling out the form and uploading the necessary documents: French Voices Awards, Hemingway Grants and Acquisition of Rights program. The French Voices Awards honor both translators and American publishers for English translations of works that have been published in France in the last 6 years. Award recipients are selected by an independant literary committee. Each book receives a $6,000 award, shared by the American publisher ($4000) and the translator ($2000) ($5,000 and $1,000 respectively in the case of a comic book or picture book). READ MORE |
Hemingway Grants allow publishers to receive financial help for the translation and publication of a French work into English. Grant beneficiaries are selected by the Book Department of the French Embassy in the United States. Grants awarded for each work range from $500 to $6,000. READ MORE |
The Institut Français helps American publishers offset the cost of acquiring the rights to French works. Grant beneficiaries are selected by the Institut Français in Paris. The amount awarded cannot exceed the amount of the advance paid to the French publisher for the acquisition of rights and varies from €500 to €7,000.

Odile and Jacques are a middle class married couple living mediocre life in which their sole source of interest and entertainment consists of consuming.
