MARCH 2020 | TEXAS, OKLAHOMA, ARKANSAS

The French Cultures Festival (Mois de la Francophonie) showcases the diversity of French cultures during the month of March. It provides opportunities for the public to experience the language and cultures from France and the francophone world through an eclectic program.

Free outdoor and family-friendly concert featuring: CharlElie Couture (France), Ariane Roy (Quebec) and VODI (Houston, TX).

FROM MARCH 8 | SILVER AND WINTER STREET STUDIOS | HOUSTON, TX

FotoFest Biennial 2020 "African Cosmologies: Photography, Time, and the Other", March 8 – April 19, 2020, is the 18th edition of the Houston-based festival. “African Cosmologies” features over 30 artists from across the continent and its diaspora, making it one of the world’s largest exhibitions of African photography.

Six francophone artists will be included: Hélène A. Amouzou (Togo / Belgium), Sammy Baloji (Congo / Belgium), Bruno Boudjelal (France / Algeria), Samuel Fosso (Cameroon / France), Nyaba L. Ouedraogo (Burkina Faso / France), and Wilfred Ukpong (France / Nigeria).W

The public are invited to an evening reception in celebration of the Menil Collection's exhibition, "Photography and the Surreal Imagination", on view through June 14, 2020. The exhibition explores photography's central tension between documentation and invention, a generative force for artists connected to Surrealism and beyond.

Et Voilà Théâtre presents Duck à l’Orange (Le Canard à l’orange), a comedy by William Douglas Home which was adapted to French by Marc-Gilbert Sauvajon. In French with English subtitles.

The Alliance Française de Dallas invites you to spend an afternoon with Madame Bovary! Drinks and snacks will be served in the Donor’s Lounge, right before the performance. After the show stay for an intimate talkback led by associate artistic director and choreographer Danielle Georgiou, featuring some of the cast members. Afterwards Danielle will give a quick tour of the set - unique opportunity to take photos. The talkback and tour will be approximately 30 minutes long.

Invited by Fotofest, philosopher Felwine Sarr, philosopher Felwine Sarr will discuss Africa’s unique philosophies and notions of communal value and economy deeply rooted in its ancient traditions and landscape. In Afrotopia, a vibrant meditation and poetic call for an African utopian philosophy of self-reinvention for the twenty-first century (to be released in March by the University of Minnesota Press), Sarr takes us on a journey that is as much inward as outward, demanding an elevation of the collective consciousness. MARCH 20-21 | A&M CONSOLIDATED HIGH SCHOOL | COLLEGE STATION, TX

French teachers from any high school in Texas may bring students in grades 9-12 to compete in oral events (poetry, prose recitation, extemporaneous speaking, sight reading, and dramatic interpretation), academic tests, art and music events.

The theme this year will be "L'Abondance de la France" (the Bounties of France): celebrating France's rich agricultural heritage.

A parade will be performed by lower school students, followed by a singing performance from the upper school students who will recite French poems written by them in the style of Boris Vian. Austin Film Society presents screenings of the three movies that make up the Three Colors trilogy: Blue, White, and Red. Krzysztof Kieślowski’s trilogy—named for the three colors of the French flag—explores the country’s mores of “liberty, equality and fraternity” through a series of crises in the lives of its varied protagonists. Screening as a marathon on March 29 with select individual shows the week before.
