The Grand Réveil Acadien 2015, which commemorates the arrival 250 years ago of the Acadians in Louisiana, began this past weekend! The Consul General, Grégor Trumel, officially took part in the festivities and commemorations, delivering speeches on Saturday at Lake Charles and Sunday at Lafayette’s “Cajundome”.

EMBASSY CULTURAL ADVISOR VISITS NEW ORLEANS

Bénédicte de Montlaur, who recently began her position as the head of Cultural Services at the Embassy of France, visited New Orleans on September 21 and 22.

Ms. de Montlaur experienced an action-packed visit, aimed at the promotion of new and central cultural initiatives across Louisiana: French language education; bilingualism and immersion schools in New Orleans; preparation for the Tricenntenial of New Orleans in 2018 with the office of Mayor Mitch Landrieu (exciting program to come!); cooperation with the New Orleans Museum of Art, the New Orleans Opera, and Festival International in Lafayette; our artistic project with the Arts Council, LUNA Fête; and, finally, a meeting with the President of Tulane University.

LA TRAVIATA

September 21, 2015, the French-American Chamber of Commerce (FACC) and the Consulate General of France hosted the New Orleans Opera Association at the Residence of France to celebrate their new production: La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi.

The New Orleans Opera Association presents La Traviata on October 9 and 11 at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre of New Orleans.

The Consulate General of France in Louisiana welcomes Laëtitia BUSSY, the new assistant to the Consul General. Laëtitia joins us from the Consulate General of France in Mumbai, India. Prior to that, she worked for the cultural service of the Embassy of France in New York.

SALON DE JEANNE D'ARC

September 19, 2015, the team behind the Joan of Arc Parade (Krewe of Joan of Arc) presented the “Salon de Jeanne d’Arc” at Loyola University. It was a day of debates, round tables, historical lectures and events around the beloved patron of New Orleans, who boasts a statue in the French Market...

The Consul General gave a lecture on the significance and image of Joan of Arc, a major historical figure and republican symbol in France, yesterday and today, alongside local author Bobby Matherne. It was a truly educational and entertaining occasion!
