Prof. Michel Zink, Chair of Medieval French Literature at the Collège de France, is one of the most well-known professors in the world for his prolific work. April 7th and 8th, Prof. Zink will present two lectures at Tulane University on La Chanson de Roland and La Chanson des Femmes. The lectures are in French and open to the public.

We asked Prof. Zink a few questions on his visit to Louisiana and why medieval literature is still important.

CONSUL GENERAL TRUMEL AND KIRBY JAMBON IN "LE FIGARO"

On Friday, March 20, 2015, Consul General Grégor Trumel and Louisianan poet Kirby Jambon were featured in the well-known and widely-circulate French publication "Le Figaro".

"In spite of the American cultural steamroller, the country of Cajuns and Creoles still speaks French, and young generations rediscover their roots with a singular persistence. Louisiana has even sent its first poet to Paris at the beginning of December to be recognized by the ’Académie française’".

IAM IN NOLA

The legendary hip-hop band from Marseilles will in New Orleans on April 22nd, 2015 at House of Blues.

Formed in Marseilles in 1989, the band is a pioneer of French rap and draws heavily on allusions to modern society’s realities in its music. The group developed a unique rap style, mixing French beats and lyrics with Middle Eastern and Asian influences.

MUSIC EXPLORER

Six finalists from Louisiana on The Voice and American Idol, leaves only one thing missing...a French televised singing competition!

French television network France Ô is bringing back its hit reality series, Music Explorer, for its second season to cast French-speaking singers. On April 14-21, they will be in Louisiana seeking new talent. The winner will travel to Paris to compete in the finale, with a chance to win a contract with a major French record label, a new album, and a tour.

CONTEST: BILINGUAL GENERATION

In recognition of the COP21 Conference on Climate Change in Paris, the contest "Bilingual Generation" is organized by the Consulate General of France in Louisiana, CODOFIL and Nunu Arts and Culture Collective. It will be held during this year’s Semaine Française in Arnaudville and will determine a lucky high school student winner.

The winning student must be between the ages of 16 and 18. He or she will participate in a ten-day international meeting of students from bilingual Francophone classes from more than 30 countries and have the opportunity to experience day-to-day life in France in an all-expense paid trip!

The deadline is April 10, so act fact!

ALBERTINE AND "FRENCH CORNERS" IN LOUISIANA

A new reading room and bookshop, Albertine Books in French and English, opened in September 2014 at the French Embassy in New York with 14,000 titles from 30 French-speaking countries.

With hand-picked titles by Albertine staff and the French Embassy Books Department, a new program, "French Corners" seeks to promote French literature across the United States. Bookstores that have been chosen to participate in "French Corners" can be found in Washington, D.C., Boston, Miami, Houston, Portland, Chicago and....Arnaudville, Louisiana!
