This engaging virtual performance for families will be broadcast LIVE on Zoom and Facebook with kids able to interact with the actors during the performance and post-show Q&A.
Leïli and Nils are in the same class. Leïli likes to hunt, dress like boys, and gel her short hair. Nils likes to wear his hair long, shows his emotions, and is not physically strong. Neither conforms to gendered roles that society dictates. Told through the voices of Leïli and Nils, this intimate and poignant theater piece transports the audience into the mind of young boys and girls confronting the cultural stereotypes imposed on them as they come of age.

LITERATURE

“BD 2020” was supposed to see a roster of events dedicated to graphic novels in France and abroad throughout the year. To this end, French Ministry of Culture imagined the hashtag #toutelafrancedessine to promote the French year of comics. Unfortunately, most events have been postponed for the time being but we could certainly use this time to (re)discover the vast offering of a genre. In a rare piece of good news, it was announced that the season will expand by a few months. In the meantime keep reading!

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy, along with partner institutions NYC Parks and the FACE Foundation, have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 edition of Films on the Green, the free outdoor French film festival produced annually in New York City parks since 2008. In an effort to keep the festival’s fans and communities entertained while at home, the Cultural Services will promote the previous editions of Films on the Green from May to the end of July and share curated film recommendations online based on each year’s theme.

US release: June 5, 2020

Neo-realism meets Film Noir as, on crowded Milan streets, with the Duomo looming in the background, two hommes durs execute a split second slug and grab payroll heist — in broad daylight — then begin a lightning-paced getaway, via underground passages, car, motorcycle, bus (!), speedboat, and ambulance. But after all, when a tough guy is going back to France (where he’s been sentenced to death in absentia) after holing up in Italy for nearly a decade, he’s got to have some startup money — particularly if he’s going back with his wife and kids! And as the mayhem mounts, one gangster, in a stricken voice, reflects on the cost to others of his “a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do” life style, seemingly flirting with a realization that there’s a viable life beyond the milieu.

NSDOS - aka Kirikoo Des – is a hybrid artist who works simultaneously on dance, music and digital art.

After studying dance, Kirikoo Des aka NSDOS, felt the need to create his own sound in order to explore movement. This is how he started imagining a whole new sonic order, an alternative approach to music – through abstraction. NSDOS can’t restrain himself to existing technological tools and softwares, he prefers creating his own mediums: futurist instruments made of old audio converters (carte son), Gameboy emulators, pieces of metal dismantled and weld together giving form to surreal machines.

Below is the link for NSDOS online event dated May 25th 2020.

Because of the current situation, we are changing the rules! Like animals, we adapt to our environment and context to make room for our instincts. Forget the public outdoor places for now and escape to your living room, bedroom, kitchen, balcony, garden ... and bring to light your animal kingdom, solo, with family or with your roommates.

The Animal Kingdom Project is an initiation between Numeridanse and Akram Khan Company. Inspired from the Company’s production Outwitting the Devil that centres the human connection to the natural world, this project is an opportunity for you to evoke the wild things that we believe, live in you.

You have until Sunday September 13, 2020 to participate in the Animal Kingdom project!

Patrick Kelly, The Journey at SCAD FASH is currently closed until further notice, thanks to the threat of COVID-19. Before the exhibition opened, briefly, to the public, I was able to sit with Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist Derrick Adams to discuss the creation of this body of work meant to exalt the global impact of fashion designer Patrick Kelly (1954–1990). Kelly was born in Vicksburg, MS, and gained fame for being the first American admitted to the Chambre Syndicale du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode (French Syndicate of Ready-to-Wear for Dressmakers and Fashion Designers). He was known for his size-inclusive designs, his energetic runway shows, and his iconic denim overalls.

VISUAL ART

High Museum of Art - Atlanta

The setting of this puzzling scene may represent the artist’s studio, lined as it is with books and adorned with plaster casts of sculptures. (The relief mounted on the back wall is a reproduction of a famous fifth-century marble from the Temple of Nike on the Acropolis in Athens, showing the goddess adjusting her sandal.) The woman—who may or may not be the subject of the painting—could be a model, patron, or visiting friend. Her figure is truncated below the shoulders, as if she herself were a portrait bust, so one can only surmise why she is there and what she might be doing.

When rain confined Camille Pissaro indoors, he sometimes painted lush bouquets of flowers gathered by his wife, who grew masses of them in her garden. What other flowers do you see in the bouquet? Will you create art on this rainy day?
