“BD 2020” was supposed to see a roster of events dedicated to graphic novels in France and abroad throughout the year. To this end, French Ministry of Culture imagined the hashtag #toutelafrancedessine to promote the French year of comics. Unfortunately, most events have been postponed for the time being but we could certainly use this time to (re)discover the vast offering of a genre. In a rare piece of good news, it was announced that the season will expand by a few months. In the meantime keep reading!

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy, along with partner institutions NYC Parks and the FACE Foundation, have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 edition of Films on the Green, the free outdoor French film festival produced annually in New York City parks since 2008. In an effort to keep the festival’s fans and communities entertained while at home, the Cultural Services will promote the previous editions of Films on the Green from May to the end of July and share curated film recommendations online based on each year’s theme.

June 1-7: 2009 Festival “Environment”

June 8-14: 2013 Festival “Love Stories”

June 15-21: 2015 Festival “La Méditerranée”

June 22-28: 2012 Festival “Literary Adaptations”

The festival will feature programming curated by the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Guadalajara International Film Festival, International Film Festival & Awards Macao (IFFAM), Jerusalem Film Festival, Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI), Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Locarno Film Festival, Marrakech International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, San Sebastian International Film Festival, Sarajevo Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival and Venice Film Festival.

Jazz Coalition is a new collective of industry professionals, musicians, fans, and supporters who hope to identify the needs of the global jazz and improvisational music communities and strategize responses, solutions, and opportunities that help alleviate their current difficulties.

They are creating a commission fund open to artists from all around the world that will provide financial support for the commission and creation of new works.

NSDOS - aka Kirikoo Des – is a hybrid artist who works simultaneously on dance, music and digital art.

After studying dance, Kirikoo Des aka NSDOS, felt the need to create his own sound in order to explore movement. This is how he started imagining a whole new sonic order, an alternative approach to music – through abstraction. NSDOS can’t restrain himself to existing technological tools and softwares, he prefers creating his own mediums: futurist instruments made of old audio converters (carte son), Gameboy emulators, pieces of metal dismantled and weld together giving form to surreal machines.

SCAD FASH presents Pierre Cardin: Le Futur, a SCAD-produced animated film about the storied life and career of fashion designer Pierre Cardin. From Schiaparelli to Dior to his own legendary house, Cardin reflects on his métier in conversation with SCAD President and Founder Paula Wallace. André Leon Talley, Jean Paul Gaultier, Maryse Gaspard, and Jim Bittermann add enriching detail of how Cardin transformed the world with his avant-garde sensibility and prescient vision. In 2018, SCAD FASH was honored to present Cardin's designs in Pierre Cardin: Pursuit of the Future, a major retrospective exhibition.

The setting of this puzzling scene may represent the artist’s studio, lined as it is with books and adorned with plaster casts of sculptures. (The relief mounted on the back wall is a reproduction of a famous fifth-century marble from the Temple of Nike on the Acropolis in Athens, showing the goddess adjusting her sandal.) The woman—who may or may not be the subject of the painting—could be a model, patron, or visiting friend. Her figure is truncated below the shoulders, as if she herself were a portrait bust, so one can only surmise why she is there and what she might be doing.
